3 Tips to Prep for Grocery Shopping Day

Okay I am getting ready to do a big giant monthly grocery shopping trip. That means, that yes, I am going grocery shopping for one whole month! I want to share my 3 tips to prep for grocery shopping day!

In one morning, I am going to get all the groceries I need, except for fresh produce. I’m gonna go shopping for all of that tomorrow so, I am prepping for that so I thought I would just kind of like take you along in my day as I get things ready to shop!

3 Tips to Prep for Grocery Shopping Day:

1. Get your grocery list ready!

Please, please do not go into a grocery store, for grocery shopping, without a list! It makes it so hard to buy what you actually need, if you don’t have a list. So, to get my list, I head on over to our meal planning on a budget membership, click a few buttons, and BAM! Grocery list is done and ready for me!

I also like to keep a running list of household needs and regular items we use for breakfast and lunch. So, when I think of something like, birdseed (totally random, I know) I just jot it down on the notepad in my phone. That way, at the end of the month, I don’t forget all those random items I think about!

2. Clean Out Your Fridge!

I try and make sure my fridge is clean each month when it is time to do monthly grocery shopping. It helps me see what we need and what we don’t need. We are talking like condiments, different cooking sauces, cheeses, etc. I want to make sure I do not buy doubles of basic things we like to keep on hand!

I love my nice and clean fridge! I open it multiple times just to stare! HA!

3. Shop Your Fridge, Freezer and Pantry!

Grab your grocery list, paper, and pen and get to work shopping your fridge, freezer, and pantry! Also, while shopping your fridge, freezer, and pantry, check and see if there are any substitutions you can make. For example, could you substitute pork for the chicken you already have in your freezer? Could you use rotini pasta that is in your pantry versus having to buy penne pasta at the store?

Now, remember, I still need to add things we need for breakfast, lunches, and snacks. I also will need to add everything that I have listed in my phone over the past month. But, after shopping my fridge, freezer, and pantry, and seeing what I already had and what I could substitute with I was able to cut my grocery list in LESS THAN HALF!

I really hope these three tips for preparing to grocery shop have helped you! Try it out! I just know it will take some stress off of the dreaded grocery shopping!
