You might be wondering why I like to torture myself. The truth is that it isn’t torture at all. I get so excited when I see something that literally costs hundreds of dollars and I know I can make it for a fraction of the price! Yep. You can to!
Mason jar crafts have been huge for a while now and are still going hot! It makes sense why. They are super cute and super affordable.
4 steps. That’s all it takes to complete this mason jar lantern! This project today was inspired by one of these relaxing moments. I saw a very similar item that for a set cost well over $50. If you follow this tutorial you will only need about $10.
DIY Mason Jar Lantern
What you will need:
Mason jar – any size you like
Rope – about 8” per mason jar
Hot glue
Hot glue gun
Hose clamp – find them in the plumbing section of your hardware store
Spray paint – optional
You are about to be blown away at how easy this project is!
1. I decided I wanted to paint my hose clamps to add a little character to my mason jar lanterns. If you want the same thing, paint the clamps first before you start this project. This will give the clamps time to dry completely before you need them.
2. Take your rope and trim down to the size you would like the handle of your lantern to be. You might not even need to trim. Unravel the last ½ inch of the ends of the rope.
3. On opposite sides of the rim on the jar put a big glob of hot glue, about the size of a dime. Working quickly, press the ends of the rope into the hot glue. Careful, don’t burn your fingers!
4. Now slide your hose clamp over the rope and onto the rim of the jar.
And that’s all folks! You are finished! How did yours turn out?
Now aren’t you wondering why anyone would spend over $50 on something almost identical! I know right? These types of mason jar crafts are crazy cute and cheap. Gotta love them! Definitely frugal fabulous!
