$2 Thrift Store Bulletin Board Makeover

Completely blank sits a white wall in my kitchen, just begging for a bulletin board.

I first thought, “Cool, I’ll just go buy a piece of cork board and put fabric over it, call it good.” Well, turns out cork board is not that cheap.

Plan B, keep my eyes open for an old bulletin board to refinish. Turns out, it didn’t take me long to find one at a local thrift store.

Best part, I bought it for only $2! After purchasing the board, fabric, and tacks, I spent total about $8. Not bad at all for a completely custom bulletin board!

August 2016 Thrift Store Haul

It doesn’t happen all the time but when it does… euphoria takes over! For us frugalistas, it’s when the stars align just right as you walk through the doors of your favorite thrift store and everything you touch seems to be hand picked just for you!

Do you know what I’m talking about? With thrift stores it can be completely hit or miss. For example, just yesterday I wandered into our local Goodwill Store and there was nothing. Not a single thing I was interested in. Oh well, better luck next time. Right?

But! On this particular beautiful Monday morning, things worked out just right!

Does anyone else get as excited as I do when I head out to the thrift store? I’m not sure exactly what it is but the excitement of not knowing what I’m going to find just makes me so happy! I guess it’s kinda like a treasure hunt!

When it comes to repurposing or refinishing thrift store finds, spray paint is your best friend! It makes anything look new again and you can make any thrift store treasure match your home décor perfectly.

One of my very favorite things to do is find something in a store that I really really want but there is no way I could afford it. Well, I guess that’s not the fun part. The fun part comes when I go home and figure out a way to make that same thing for way less!

That’s the case here with creating your own DIY photo canvas. This project is super straight forward and simple. I was able to make this entire project for only $5!

Have you every tried staining a piece of furniture before? The entire idea of how to stain wood furniture was very intimidating for me. Painting, not as much. But the idea of using something as permanent as a stain frightened me a bit.

I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be scary! It’s a great way to add life to an old piece of furniture and may actually be a lot easier then painting!

Thrift Store Finds – Dainty Side Table

I know I have told you before but I just love going thrift store shopping on Mondays! If I miss a Monday I get a little depressed. Just ask my hubby! Well… this last trip was one of those golden thrift store shopping trips! I found a large set of cooking dishes, some cute books for the kiddos, a couple vintage books for a different project, and this cute little thing!

I didn’t even know I needed it but as soon as I saw it sitting all by itself I knew just where I was going to put it! Our living room has a nice big comfy chair but no end table anywhere nearby but not a lot of space for one. So this cutie was the perfect solution!
