Casual Couponing Tip – Get Rid of the Newspaper!

I did it! I have been telling myself that I don’t need it and the papers just keep piling up in my closet, so I finally did it! I canceled my newspaper subscription!

For the past 3 or more years I have been a loyal subscriber to our local Sunday paper for the sole purpose to get the coupons. At first it was great! There were so many deals every week and I was using those clipped coupons multiple times weekly. Well, times have changed and there is just no need for them now.

Casual Couponing Tip Ditch the Newspaper Pin - penniesintopearls.com - Don't spend more than 15 minutes each week couponing and save $100s each month!

You can do the same thing! Does the idea of ditching your paper give you hives? I was very nervous at first too. I hate to miss out on a good deal! But I have let go of the fact that one or two deals a month is not worth my time invested into newspaper coupon clipping.

Why you should ditch the newspaper!

It’s Better to Be a Casual Couponer
Do you know what it means to be a casual couponer? Doesn’t it sound a lot better than an “extreme couponer”? Let me tell you that it is! For full details on what and how you can be an expert at casual couponing make sure to visit my Casual Couponing 101 page.

For now, let me just say that this technique for couponing is going to save you a lot of time and you will still be saving $100s each month on your groceries!

You Can Find the Coupons Online
Online coupons have come to the point where you can find online almost every coupon you can find in the newspaper. Before I go on, I know there will be the occasions where there was that one coupon that was worth a little more in the newspaper and it might give you a mini panic attack to miss a deal. Take a deep breath and let go of those few pennies and really way out the costs.

Waste of Time
Is it really worth it to be clipping and saving all of those newspaper insert coupons just to save those couple extra dollars? Remember that no matter who you are, your time is worth money! Actually, your time is invaluable! I know you have a million things to do each day and sitting to clip out each and every coupon has become a waste of your time.

One of the great things about online coupons is that they are available at the click of a mouse almost all the time. You don’t have to clip every single one. You may want to do a quick selection and print of anything that your family will use. They don’t stay online forever. A lot of manufactures only allow a certain amount of coupons to be printed before they pull their coupons offline.

Even still, you can be a lot more selective on what you are clipping which will save you a lot of time!

Waste of Money
Think about how much you are paying for the newspaper each week? I had found a really great deal but it still wasn’t worth it. I was paying about $1.00 a paper and I was paying for two papers each week. Not a ton of money. BUT I found myself printing all of the coupons I needed because it was a lot easier to click and print the coupon rather then searching through my coupon binder to find it.

At the end of the month I would only be using, maybe, 2-3 coupons from the newspaper. Making the savings on average about $6-$8 from my newspaper coupons. Compare that to how much I was spending on the paper and most months I was actually losing money!

Are you losing money to your newspaper subscription?

In a Nutshell
Unless you are an extreme couponer and spend hours each week clipping and searching for the very best deals, you don’t need to be paying for a newspaper subscription, just for the coupons.

Cancel it today! Save yourself the time, stress, and money! I have made it super easy for you with everything you need to know on how to be a casual couponer. With just 5 minutes each week you can be saving $100s each month. No newspaper necessary!

This is great advice! Whenever I take the time to clip the coupons I inevitably misplace them or they expired. Online printing is so much easier.

This is great! I used to be a casual couponer but it got to be so much time clipping. I definitely need to revisit it and use the online resources!

Awesome post! I’m a huge fan of retailmenot.com…I usually don’t buy anything online or go shopping without checking it first. Also, I too deduct what I pay on a newspaper from my total saved, lol. There are so many great site online that give out coupons, and a lot of stores anymore will let you bring a coupon up on your phone to scan. I love saving money! Thanks for sharing!

I have found that most people don’t use their coupons and are willing to give them to you. I never buy a newspaper anymore.
