Stay away from the pretty red bullseye! As much as it pains me to say this about my very most favorite store, Target. But it is probably a good idea for you to stay clear, just for the next four weeks.
The temptation of the perfectly cute banners, poka dot straws, and other pretty trinkets in the dollar spot is extremely too tempting for myself. It’s just better for my personal mental state to keep my distance during this no spend month.
Why in the world would anyone want to put themselves through the torture of (almost) completely freezing their spending? The answer is so you can save a bunch of money really quickly!
Before we go any further there is one thing we just need to get out of the way. It is not easy to complete a no spend month. Nope. But is it worth it? Oh yeah!
Today I am sharing our November budget update! We’ve had hundreds of dollars worth of unplanned expenses the last two months, and today I am sharing how we were able to cover it all with cash!
Starting a family budget doesn’t have to be restrictive! Look at it in a way that you are actually telling your money what to do rather than wondering where it went. Then not having enough to pay the bills… Stressful!
I just realized that I have never shared this hack with you before! Are you ready to learn the trick to finally stop overspending each month?
Today’s video is short and sweet, but I think you’re going to really get a lot out of it. Because our trick to not overspend is…. Drum roll…
One Trick to Stop Overspending NOW
Wait no longer, here is the tip. When we need something, I write it on a list and wait for our monthly grocery haul. Yep… that’s it! It seems so simple but I don’t think a lot of people do this. It does definitely take work to stick to this.
Here is an example. It’s embarrassing what mine and Kennedy’s hair brushes look like. It’s been something we’ve needed to upgrade for a while but it keeps getting bumped to the bottom of the list. You know why? Priorities.
Which brings me to wondering, have you figured out your value based budget yet? I would love for you to join myself and a community of like minded Pearls in 30 Day Family Finance Rescue. We are going to go way beyond this one tip and teach you how to figure out your own unique values and base your budget on those. Are you in?
I have a secret. Well, maybe not so much a secret but something I have not shared with our Pearls because I didn’t think you were ready to hear it yet. Something about my spending habits.
But I think it’s time…
We have recently added a monthly expense of $160 to our budget for something that is 100% unnecessary. You know, I don’t feel about it one bit!
Before anyone starts tearing me apart in the comments (I know that those people aren’t true Pearls anyways!), hear me out. I’ll tell ya what the expense is in a sec.
First you need to understand that I believe you need to be spending your money where you value most. You work hard for your money! Your budget needs to be set up in a way that allows you to intentionally put your cash towards achieving your goals.
Without this, your money is going to disappear with nothing to show and your dreams left in the dust. Let’s make sure that this does not happen to you!
Are you one of our lucky Pearls who is getting a refund from their taxes this year? Lucky! I bet you are so excited! I am excited for you! Do you already have plans on different ways to spend your tax return?
There is so much that you can do with that cash!
Would you mind me offering a few suggestions as to what you should do with that money? To be sure you are intentional with those dolla bills and don’t end up wondering where it all went!
What if you could use that tax return to help your family by actually starting to gain traction on your goals?
Think of all the stress it will lift from your shoulders! Think of the excitement and hope you could provide!
It’s time for another Family Budget update! In these updates is where I share the nitty gritty details of our real life family finances. All the details of what has happened in our bank account over the last few weeks.
I have been doing these budget update videos for over TWO YEARS! It’s crazy to see how far we have come!
When we started we were in over $20,000 in debt and living off one income. We figured out how to start and maintain a budget that was based off our goals. This way KEY in keeping motivated to keep going!
If you don’t know where you want your money to take you, then you most definitely will end up walking in circles. Or in other words, living that paycheck-to-paycheck life. The life that we are all trying to escape!
Intentional goal based family budgeting is a major topic that I cover in depth in my online course, 30 Day Family Finance Rescue! I want you to get excited every time you work on your budget. You’re going to get pumped because you know that your budget is helping you reach your goals!

November is the start of the holiday season! It’s the time when things can get out of control with your meal plan and food budget if you’re not careful. Family gatherings, treats at the kids school, or parties with friends, it can all add up!
This month, I am committed to sharing with you how my family deals with all of these “unforeseen” events and plans for them as much as possible.
